Los Angeles City Hall is thrashing around as the City Council and mayor belatedly try to control a pot-shop explosion they ignited, which has spawned dozens of freewheeling weed emporiums near public schools. The Los Angeles school board’s response? Nada.I decided to read through the whole article instead of reading the first few paragraphs as I do with some article that seem like no-brainers to me, but this one struck me differently for some reason. I don't know why. Anyway, the one that I quoted and that links to the original article is about a growing debate over whether or not to regulate medical marajuana stores, keeping them 1000 feet away from schools if measures are put into place.
I really think that this debate is ridiculous. Why is the city of Los Angeles arguing over medical marijuana regulations when they clearly know it is a dangerous substance. Just as dangerous as drunk driving is driving while stoned. The fact that the article in LAWeekly mentioned that there are stores across the street from some schools, and that kids can see the stoners and smell the smoke is reprehensible. What is the message that these kids see everyday? That getting stoned is just as 'fine' as getting totally drunk and then trying to drive home? You know that some kids may draw this conclusion, even if it is far-fetched.
I'm a man who is all for limited government, but this is where government regulation was meant to reach.
